Known quirks
- Storage-starved: the 8 GB / 16 GB flash ran out constantly during updates, leaving users stuck
- Apple sold this until 2022 — five years at the same internals
- Couldn't update to watchOS 7+ without factory-resetting to free space
- Still the cheapest way into Apple Watch ownership for years; many schools bought them
- Max watchOS 8.8.1 — security updates trickle in but no new features
