Known quirks
- Click wheel — the canonical iPod control; every accessory adapter targeted this layout
- First iPod to play video — H.264 up to 480×320
- 5.5G variant bumped brightness and RAM mid-cycle without fanfare
- DRM'd AV cable kept video locked to Apple's $19 accessory
- Last iPod under $299 with a 'classic' user experience
