- First 802.11n AirPort Express — added draft-n and a selectable 5 GHz band to the wall-wart design
- Kept AirTunes audio streaming via the combined 3.5 mm analog + Mini-TOSLINK optical jack
- USB port drove a shared printer (and could charge an iPod shuffle)
- Single 10/100 Ethernet port; also worked as a travel router to extend hotel Wi-Fi
- Later gained AirPlay support by firmware; superseded by the redesigned 2012 model
